Hudson’s Bay High School senior Allison Blaine won her third state wrestling championship on Feb. 22. Blaine prevailed in the 135-pound weight class at the Mat Classic in Tacoma. Blaine is the fourth Clark County athlete to clinch three wrestling championships and the second Vancouver Public Schools wrestler to accomplish this feat.
Blaine also is ranked fifth nationally in the 135-pound weight class.
Coaches Chad Ortiz, Vernon Bryant and Bryan Hugo have praised her collaborative approach to the sport. “Allison’s coaches want you to know that Allison always puts the team first,” said Hudson’s Bay Associate Principal/Athletic Director Greg Roberts. “Her 13+ years of experience gave her a depth of knowledge and understanding of the sport that she was happy to share with any of her teammates.
“If you poked your head into the gym at any given moment, you’d see Allison working with a teammate, teaching them how to change their elevation on their shot, fight for head position and helping them stay in a solid stance,” said Roberts.
Blaine plans to continue wrestling in college while also studying engineering.
